Happy birthday to the “First Lady of Radio,” Mary Margaret McBride!

This trailblazing lady was one of the first to bring interview journalism to the airwaves, talking to more than 30,000 guests in her over 20 years on-air, including figures like Eleanor Roosevelt (pictured above).

By the late 1940s, she attracted an audience of more than 6 million daily listeners, making “daytime radio profitable.” Via The Writer’s Almanac.
